Workout Motivation for Males & Females (Gender)
We all know that self motivation plays a big role in the amount of physical activity we participate in throughout your life, but are you aware that gender roles play a huge part in this matter as well? There are patterns in the amount and even the way that both genders choose to exercise, and we may not even be aware of these unconscious decisions that we make! When men and women choose to participate in physical activity, they both have different motivations for doing so and anyone who is choosing to exercise should be aware of these differences so that they can benefit from them.
Women:
-
Women tend to exercise to promote a healthy body and lifestyle
-
Set goals based on health and fitness
-
Exercise routine includes more cardio, aerobics, yoga, and toning exercises.
-
Less competitive, ex: while running a marathon, most woman would set personal goals and work to achieve them
Men:
-
Exercise to stay healthy
-
Focus on things like how heavy they can lift and compare throughout their training both to others and to see how much they've improved and gotten stronger
-
Competitive, example: while running a marathon, most men are concerned with what place they finish in.
-
Men are more likely to focus on strength training and building certain muscles to achieve a certain stature or body type.
